Teaching Credibility |
On the first day of school, I would give the children a homework assignment to look up the meaning of credibility in a dictionary which we discussed on the following day. After the discussion I would say, It doesn't make you a bad person if have trouble reading. We can help you. It's also OK if you don't like Science or Math. We can help you with that too, but you'll never get a job and you'll never have a good friend if you don't have credibility! You are only eight years old and you are going to make mistakes. Just say I did it and I'm sorry or I said it and I'm sorry, but never lose your credibility. I would reinforce this on a daily basis. Every morning as they arrived, I would have each child come up, look me in the eyes and shake my hand. Then I would ask, How is your credibility today? At the end of each day, I had them come up to me, look me in the eyes, shake my hand and I'd say, Don't lose your credibility! This daily routine helped to instill the importance of credibility! |
