Theater for Tact

Teaching Credibility

On Friday afternoons, I turned our classroom into a little theater to teach children how not to hurt someone's feelings yet at the same time not lose their credibility. The children would put on three minute skits where for example, one child would come in and say, How do you like my new shoes? The other child, pretending not to like the shoes would have to come up with something to say with tact such as, Well they look very nice on you but I don't think they would look as nice on me. The children loved creating these skits and coming up with tactful solutions, all the while embracing the importance of credibility.

Parents began telling me stories about their children and credibility. For example, when asking their child if they have done their homework, their child would say, I did my homework and I have good credibility. The feedback I was getting through stories like this made me realize how effective my lessons were becoming.
